It was unbridled joy for the recently graduating students of the five-month vocational skills training progromme of Dominion Faith International Church, Ipaja, Lagos State. Tagged The Free Economic Empowerment Development Strategy, FEEDS, the programme was design to train people within and outside the community in different areas such as yoghurt and soap making, catering, hats and beads making and computer literacy; at no cost for the benefiting students.

Over a hundred had initially registered for the programme. But, thirty successfully completed it at the end of the first phase. David Ugbagbe, who learnt desktop publishing, is one of them. “We have acquired necessary skills that will enable us to connect to our destinies,” he said, beaming. “I feel fulfilled,” said Eniola Adeola, a business Administration undergraduate who learnt yoghurt making and already has her product in the market.
But it was more joy for David Olatona, senior pastor of the Church, who noted that his fulfillment was contributing to making people’s lives better. “I am very excited about this because I can see people who are already producing yoghurts, soaps, baking, and are making money to pay their children’s school fees and house rents,” he said at the graduating ceremony.
Despite the huge running cost and lack of corporate sponsorship, Olatona affirms that the church will continue to support the less privilege in the society. “Every institution, not just churches, should have a way of giving back.

While addressing the graduating set, Olatona advised them to make the most of what they have leart.

The next phase of the FEEDS programme began in the second week of May.
