SKILL ACQUISITION: CHURCH GRADUATES 37 STUDENTS
|
|
No fewer than 37 students who
had acquired vocational skills training in yoghurt, soap
making, catering, hat and bead making, computer literacy and
adult education were on Saturday graduated by dominion faith
international church, Lagos. |
|
According to a statement on Wednesday, the
senior pastor, dominion faith international
church David Olatona, said the training was part
of the church’s free economic empowerment
program development strategy initiative. |
|
|
He
said the initiative was development as a means of empowering
members of the community and beyond to acquire vocational
skill and provide other incentive to empower the community. |
|
Olatona also said that the church gives free feeding to
about 500 community members on a weekly basis in addition to
street light, which it provided for some streets in Ipaja
area of the state. |
|
He
emphasized that preaching the gospel to the people becomes
easier when they see practical example of love. |
|
He
said, I would not need to grab the person I am giving food
everyday to get saved. For instance, we don’t preach to them
when they come to eat or lean the skills, we just live them.
If some later tell them about God, they will want to respond
because they have seen the love expressed without condition
attached to it.” |
|
He
said that the feeding program commenced in 2007 while the
skills acquisition program began in November 2009. |
|
On
what inspired him initiate the programs, he said, “it
started because we felt we needed to give back to our
society. I was in New york in united states in 2006 for a
conference. |
|
The conference was
more like what we can do for our community to make a
change.” |
